Dr. Vanessa Tossie

Dr. Vanessa Sims Tossie is native of Atlanta, Georgia. She has always had a thirst for knowledge which led her to Georgia Southern University where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. She then went on to obtain her master’s degree from Columbus State University and her educational specialist degree from Troy State University. Vanessa’s goal was to be the best she could be both professionally and personally; therefore, she decided to return to her undergraduate alma mater, Georgia Southern University to earn her Educational Doctorate degree in Instructional Improvement. Currently, with nearly 30 years of experience as an educator, she is a third-grade teacher.

In addition to being a full-time educator, Vanessa is actively involved in the community and is no stranger to community service and currently works with the MS Society, Must Ministries, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. to name a few. Over the years, her professional and civic involvement has allowed her to serve in various leadership roles which have helped her develop unique skillset specific to data collection, policy, procedures, and record keeping. For leisure, she enjoys traveling, reading, fitness, and continued learning.  

Vanessa believes that the end goal is not to only help yourself, but to meet others where they are and help them realize their own worth and walk beside them to guide them towards becoming self-sufficient and self-aware. Hence, her guiding principle is, “Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope. Hope breeds peace” -Confucius
